Passing the Corner Shop

I’ve been in the majority of the day, blind down, all my energy going on spluttering my lungs up (I’m coming out the otherside of a cold) and purging my archive of all the non-keepers.

Around 4:30pm, I caught a glimpse of the sky through the edge of the blind. And part of the sky was a deep orange, with some nice pinks. The cloud cover was thick, but it seemed like it was trying to burn through.

I instantly imagined a shot of the two tower blocks and the goal post, this time with a cloudy sky and a little bit of orange adding some drama to it. So I grabbed my camera and tripod and bolted out the door.

The colour in the sky was fading as soon as I left, and I knew I wasn’t going to get the shot. But I carried on, set up, and waited a couple of minutes anyway just incase.

As you can see, the bloom of orange light fighting through from behind the towers didn’t come to be.

and that’s fine. The photos don’t always happen!

On my way home, quietly gutted that I’d missed the shot, I passed the corner shop and the balance between the ambient light and the interior light was just right for a photo I’ve been thinking of since we moved into the area a few years ago. I just love the look of janky exteriors of little shops like this, and it’s rare to pass the shop without catching sight of people being inside or cars parked out the front.

I think a little colour in the sky would have been nice, but this is a great starting point, and it’s funny because I wouldn’t have even entertained the thought of this photo today had I not been passing due to missing the towers shot.
