Nudes in Raincliffe Woods with Chloe

I’ve got a lot to write about and feel like not enough time to write about it. I’m moving to Glasgow tomorrow, so I’m gonna try and get a bunch of shit written on the train up.

So I’m gonna post this up real quick to get things going.

When I realised I was gonna be moving to Glasgow I put out a shout for anyone who wanted their photo taken by me to get in touch before I left. Chloe was one of these people and we managed to make it work.

We’ve been friends online for… I dunno, ages? And we’ve hung out a couple of times. I’ve wanted to photograph Chloe for a long while, so I’m glad it finally happened. We met, had a brew, then fucked off into the woods for those autumnal colours… and lack of humans.

Countryside nudes with JAZZebell_

It’s been almost 2 months since I took photos of JAZZebell_ in Wales. She’s spending most of her time in and around Bristol now but she managed to take a few days out to come up north.

I’d been on with a few things so we weren’t really sure if we were gonna get chance to meet for a catch up, but we did, and that is why you are reading this blog.

We took a walk around the town hunting down vegan cakes and took some time out on the beach.

JP leaves Westwood!

I can’t believe it’s 16 years ago since I started college.

6th Form college wasn’t something a place I took to, I couldn’t lock in to the tutors teaching methods and while I was likely capable of doing what was asked of me, it wasn’t freeing or interesting enough, and when I’m not interested in something I become impossible. I think that explains my Media & Photography U grades (results so poor they apparently couldn’t be marked).

I moved to Yorkshire Coast College (Westwood) after being told I couldn’t progress at 6th Form. That’s when I took up Photography & Graphic Design. That went mostly well, and my predicted final grades were Distinctions but after the first year, the day before 2nd year started, I decided it wasn’t enough for me and dropped the course and asked to switch to a Music course instead.

That’s where I first met tutors JP, Paul, and Jim. Tutors who got where we were coming from, understood what we wanted to do and kept as much of the typical class bullshit to a minimum, encouraging to get out there and create opportunities for ourselves and giving us a kick up the arse when we needed it. It’s things like this that clicked with us, and I’m sure is why a lot of us considered them to be friends.

Detailed memory of my time at Westwood is relatively hazy. At one point I was in so many bands I burned out, I drank a lot, and I went through a breakup of a pretty long term relationship.

I eventually completed a course and I think I got a distinction… well, that’s what I put on my CV anyway. I thought that would be me done with Westwood, except by the time I was leaving a band I was in was getting pretty serious and the guitarist & drummer were just starting the course. This ensured I hung out behind the scenes for the next 2 or 3 years.

Staff came and went, but JP and Paul were there through it all and for the years after I properly left. I heard of JP leaving on social media, and went along with Nick for a quick catch up. There was a whole mixup online involving a petition to have JP stay at the college, but he seems perfectly going on to do his Beach Hut Theatre Company, writing and directing full time!

There were a few of us there from back when we were students, and some newer faces that I didn’t recognise, but it was great to all be together for a couple of hours in Indigo Alley, chatting, performing songs and getting to hear JP continue to be the keyboard wizard that he always has been.

The crowd slowly died down and after a few ciders, I headed back with Nick to his to record some sounds.

Here’s a few photos!

Walking my brain back together.

Just taking a short break from writing about the hitching adventure at the moment to focus on a few things I’ve done this past week since being back in Scarborough. Also because I want to post at least once before the end of the month as I have been a bit quiet recently. This is probably going to be a pretty long post but then again I don’t think I’ve had a short post for a while so I guess you’re either used to it or are just happy reading the first half and leaving.

The hitching tour ended for me in Manchester, and I managed to find a bus I could get for free the majority of the way home to Scarborough. Not bad.

The morning after I got back I did a short section of the wolds way walk with my parents.

Scarborough: Antikz

Saturday night marked my last social night out in Scarborough before heading out on the road hitching with JAZZebell_ on Monday.

A few of my pals were involved in the Antikz UV Party and I’d managed to bag photo duties.

I drank water all night, which I’m kinda impressed with given my anxiety earlier on in the evening.

Jazz, Beth, and Dan got involved, and was good to see some other familiar faces before I got gone.

The One With All The Dog Walking

I’m out on the regular with Robyn and I take a lot of photos, but as I never got chance to post the last lot here’s a two-in-one sorta deal. Besides, looking at photos of dogs is hardly the worst thing in the world.

On Saturday morning Robyn asked if I wanted to go out with the dogs. I was supposed to be charging my spare batteries as I was working the evening so had to turn it down, but shortly after that the power to the village went out and so I was stuck in doors not doing anything. I guess I just had to go out then. So out she came with her dogs, complete with pyjamas.

JAZZebell_ in a snowstorm

JAZZebell_ came to visit for a couple of days and that just so happened to coincide with England being hit by The Beast from The East (still a ridiculous name for a storm, but I’m still gonna use it).

It’s brought a shit-ton of snow, and JAZZebell_ also wanted to take a shit-ton of photos. So last night she dragged me out in the dark, in -4°C (with a windchill of -13°C) to do just that. I think we were taking photos for about 4 minutes before we couldn’t cope with it any longer.

By the time our eyes adjusted to the dark, we realised we were taking photos right next to a lorry that was parked up for the night in full sight of the driver, so I’m not quite sure what he thought of that, especially when the massive fish came out.

The shoot was kind of a disaster in that it was so dark that focusing was difficult and also there was no way for me to compose the photographs so I pretty much shot blind. Either way, it was dumb and a lot of fun so fuck it here’s the photos.
