Imogen, Scarborough Castle

Similar to most connections on Facebook, people end up being added through occasional interactions over mutual friends posts, and I guess that’s how I connected with Imogen. It was a fairly long time until we actually met in person, and that was just a chance passing some point last year with Jazz. That said, we had loosely arranged to try and get together to take photos sometime before that, but for whatever reason it never happened.

When I was visiting the other week, Imogen dropped me a message out of the blue and said she’d be down to do some photos now I was around again. I had a free morning before having to go take photos of my pal Alastair, and so that was set.

JAZZebell_, Scarborough

I’m back from a week in Scarborough. Had a lot on, took a lot of photos. So it’s gonna take me some time to sort through everything. However, I have just sorted these of JAZZebell_.

As Jazz is back in the area, and as she’s in a bedroom that is completely hers for the first time in longer than I’ve known her, she wanted to take some photos. Admittedly composition went out of the window as it was just a super quick dumb set that was needlessly explicit. Continue reading “JAZZebell_, Scarborough”

Whitby Animal Sanctuary just rescued 1,383 hens and they need your help

Robyn, who I spend like a million hours walking dogs with on the regular, volunteers for the Whitby Wild Sanctuary and a few nights ago assisted the sanctuary in the rescue of 1,383 hens. They started at 10pm and worked through until 5am.

The sanctuary are trying to re-home as many as they can, and the amount of food they’re going to be needing over the next few weeks has obviously gone up considerably, so if you’re able to help them out with a donation then please get in touch right here and follow the instructions.

I spent a day volunteering with Robyn back in October and I took my camera along to document it. We watered and fed all the animals while other volunteers took care of other duties around the site.

Annoyingly I hadn’t gotten around to sharing photos from the day but as the Sanctuary needs your help right now this is probably a good a time as any for me to do that and show you just some of the injured/abandoned animals they care for.

Countryside nudes with JAZZebell_

It’s been almost 2 months since I took photos of JAZZebell_ in Wales. She’s spending most of her time in and around Bristol now but she managed to take a few days out to come up north.

I’d been on with a few things so we weren’t really sure if we were gonna get chance to meet for a catch up, but we did, and that is why you are reading this blog.

We took a walk around the town hunting down vegan cakes and took some time out on the beach.

Dalby Forest.

I haven’t actively been out to take photos since Wales and yesterday was the first time I actually felt like picking up my camera since then. I found a double that I forgot I had laying around of the lens I threw in the sea, so that was a nice surprise, but my 18 f2 is still missing…

I headed to meet Robyn and the dogs with the 35.

Robyn, Dalby-1

It was pissing it down when I set off, but the sun came out in full force by the time we were walking.

I took a bunch of photos and only got a handful that are passable for the blog, but I’m not gonna dwell on that because at least I’m getting out again.

Portraits: Robyn

My typical style of photography is very much just in the moment, and there’s very little thought behind anything I do other than documenting what it is I’m doing at that moment.

With me feeling shite about a ton of my photos lately I felt like I needed to get out and actually try for a change, and figured a good way to do that would be just focusing on portraits… probably inspired somewhat by my pal Stephen who’s on a portrait binge right now (so if dreamy and incredibly vibrant photos are your bag, then look no further).

A couple of years ago, I used to lurk certain popular photography groups on Facebook with Robyn, and we’d often pass the time private messaging each other losing our minds at how pretentious and precious a lot of the local photographers were about their photographs and techniques and also how much they lost their shit at the site of poppy fields.

Anyway, Robyn had just dyed her hair the most magnificent bright orange the night before we took these photos and there just so happened to be a poppy field on the way to my house. It was too good to resist.

I’ve done plenty of portraits in the past, but it’s not something I do on the regular so I think they can be a bit hit and miss. I just so happen to be quite happy with all these.

All shot wide open on the Fuji 35mm f2 and an old Pentax 50mm f1.7.
